In order to secure long-term sustainability, we also need to shift our thinking towards treating waste more as a resource, to be recovered wherever economic, social and environmental benefits can be gained.  This was part of a message from Ben Bradshaw, UK Minister fir the Environment,  to  the Chartered Institute of Waste Management recently.

New changes to waste regulations will help reduce the thousands of tonnes of household waste being fly-tipped each year, with householders being held responsible.

The government is now putting pressure on manufacturers of consumer goods to meet packaging guidelines introduced last year in order to meet stringent recycling and recovery targets.
